Situated on the eastern point of Mallorca, Capdepera neighbours the tourist coastal resort of Cala Ratjada. It is a place definitely off the tourist track. The town was built in 1300 AD and was intended as a lookout point to protect the maritime routes and look out for pirate attacks! The towers and forts constructed here proved vitally important in the defence of Mallorca. Visitors interested in history can go to the original castle, the "Castell de Capdepera". Most of the residents of the town are local people and there is a weekly market on Wednesdays.
